Innovation Partnership

We Build IP With You

At least two new inventions built around your roadmap, plus a provisional application filed by patent counsel.

The path

Discover, develop, file

Your challenge

Your market is moving fast. A moat and new revenue are what last.

Competitors are shipping faster than ever, and AI tools have made features cheaper to copy. Growth increasingly depends on two things: a moat competitors cannot simply rebuild, and new products and services that open revenue. Both take invention work most teams have no spare capacity for.

What you face

Rivals match what you ship faster than your roadmap moves, new revenue needs new offerings, and others may file on similar ideas before you do.

How it feels

Your team is fully booked on the current roadmap. You know the next product line and the defensible IP are both missing, but nobody has the hours to create them.

What you want

A real moat and a pipeline of new offerings: filed applications, documented know-how and new product and service concepts that reflect your capabilities and hold value as your market changes.

New ideas need development. Patent filings need counsel.

If your team needs new invention candidates, our role is to develop them and prepare the technical record. If you already have a documented invention and need legal assessment or filing, independent patent counsel may be your next step. These roles complement each other.

Your team

Sets business goals, reviews candidate concepts and decides what to pursue. You decide what to share with us and how the engagement runs.

Idea Partnership

Develops new invention candidates through our proprietary invention engine, evaluates potential commercial uses, researches prior art and prepares technical disclosures. A standalone audit reviews existing work only.

Independent patent counsel

Provides legal advice, assesses patentability and inventorship, and handles patent drafting and filing. Our research and technical materials support that review, not replace it.

This describes responsibilities in our engagement, not a comparison of every firm's services. Scope is agreed in writing. Neither commercial-use evaluation nor prior art research promises market success or a patent grant.

Our IP Development Process

Your business inputs turn into new inventions and counsel-reviewed filings.

1

The Survey

Discovery

We study your business: your products, processes, competitive landscape and growth plans. What we learn here feeds our proprietary ideation process, which is where the new inventions come from.

2

The Lab

Invention Development

Your business inputs combine with competitive research to generate new product, service and process concepts. Potential commercial uses and technical feasibility get evaluated, then prior art is researched.

3

The Patent Record

Invention Documentation

You get documentation of selected inventions and research findings. Independent licensed patent counsel assesses patentability, finalizes and files. Our 90-day delivery commitment covers a provisional application containing at least two distinct inventions, not two independent claims. The deliverable is the filed application, not a granted patent.

4

The Portfolio

Ongoing IP Strategy

After filing, you get a long-term IP roadmap: continuations, new filings, and portfolio strategy to support your competitive position.

The Menlo Park Model

Invention as a Process, Not an Accident

Thomas Edison's advantage was never a single flash of genius. It was Menlo Park: a disciplined lab that turned raw observations into documented, filed inventions, over and over. That is the model we run for our partners.

01

The Survey

Discovery

Edison's teams studied a problem exhaustively before building anything. We do the same: your products, processes, competitive landscape, and roadmap.

02

The Lab

Invention Development

We use business inputs and competitive research in our proprietary ideation process to develop new offerings, product extensions and technical process improvements. We evaluate potential commercial uses and research prior art.

03

The Patent Record

Invention Documentation

We document selected concepts, variations and research findings. Independent licensed patent counsel assesses patentability, reviews the technical materials and drafts and files provisional applications.

04

The Portfolio

Ongoing IP Strategy

One filing is a start, not a strategy. We help build a longer-term roadmap of continuations and new filings aligned to how your business competes.

For software companies, code review can deepen the work

We prefer to review relevant code when your team is comfortable with it. Architecture, implementation details and engineering decisions can help us understand what you have built and where new inventions could support your roadmap.

Code access is not a requirement. We can work from your website, demos, marketing materials, manuals and product documentation, then ask your team focused technical questions. Without implementation details, our review has limits that we discuss with you.

If you choose code review, we can work read-only inside your environment under your access controls, so source code does not need to be transferred to our systems. We can use our lawyer-drafted mutual NDA or review yours, with terms agreed before sensitive information is shared.

A standalone Codebase Invention Audit looks for inventions in existing work. The full engagement adds new invention development, commercial-use evaluation, prior art research and technical materials for counsel.

What we deliver in every engagement: at least two distinct inventions and a provisional patent application prepared and filed through independent patent counsel. A granted patent is not part of the deliverable and is not guaranteed; an engagement structured around a patent-grant outcome would carry substantially higher fees.

Why Work With Idea Partnership?

You may already have patent counsel and advisers. What you need from us is new inventions built around your roadmap, not just an assessment of the portfolio you already own.

Patent law firms

Patent counsel assesses inventions, advises on protection and handles drafting, filing and prosecution. Fees and involvement in invention development vary by firm and engagement.

IP strategy and advisory firms

Portfolio analysis, valuation and transaction advice help a company understand and use its existing IP. Those services may not include developing new technical inventions.

Innovation consultancies

Product concepts and innovation programs can help teams explore new directions. Prior art research, technical invention disclosures and coordination with patent counsel may require a separate scope.

Our role: create the inventions and develop the record for counsel

We use your business goals and our proprietary invention engine to develop new product, service and process inventions. We evaluate potential commercial uses, research prior art and prepare technical materials for independent patent counsel to assess, draft and file from.

The full engagement is scoped around at least two distinct inventions and a counsel-filed provisional patent application on a defined 90-day timeline. Delivery, payment and refund terms are set out in the engagement agreement and summarized below. A filed provisional application is not a granted patent.

Service scopes overlap and vary. This explains the work we take on, not a claim that other firms cannot offer it. Commercial-use evaluation does not establish market demand, and prior art research does not replace counsel's patentability assessment. Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.

Selective Partnerships: Conflicts of Interest Policy

We run conflicts of interest checks before entering any partnership. We do not work in all industries, and we are selective about who we partner with. This is intended to help protect your competitive position and support our commitment to your engagement.

Your guide

We know how fast your market is moving.

Idea Partnership is led by James Borzilleri, a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications. He has watched good technology lose its edge because nobody had time to protect it or build what came next. That is why your engineers do not need to bring finished ideas or extra hours: we work alongside them to create and document new inventions, then hand counsel a complete technical record, so your company owns what it builds while your team stays on the roadmap.

The plan

A clear three-step plan.

Three steps from your business goals to a filed application your company owns.

  1. 01

    Share your goals

Tell us where your business is headed. Your team spends a few working sessions with us, not weeks away from the roadmap.

  2. 02

Get new inventions, ready for counsel

You receive candidate inventions with commercial-use evaluation, prior art research, drawings and disclosures, ready for counsel to review.

  3. 03

    Own a filed application

Independent licensed patent counsel assesses patentability, finalizes and files, so your company holds a filed provisional patent application. Legal judgments stay with counsel.

Without a plan

  • Competitors rebuild your features and compete on price
  • Growth stalls without new revenue-producing offerings
  • Others may file on similar ideas first
  • Inventions may be disclosed publicly before anyone evaluates them
  • Diligence reviewers may find an undocumented technology story
  • Counsel receives incomplete material and timelines slip

With a plan in place

  • Your company owns rights that a competitor cannot simply rebuild
  • New product and service concepts give growth somewhere to go
  • Your team's best ideas are captured before they ship
  • You choose what to file with research in hand
  • Your counsel receives complete packages and timelines hold
  • You walk into diligence with a documented technology story

Outcomes depend on each invention, prior art and counsel's judgment. Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.

Who we work with

Built for established technology companies.

A high-touch engagement for organizations developing products, services and technical processes. No finished invention is required.

A strong fit

  • Mid-cap and larger companies, and well-funded growth companies
  • Engineering, product or operations teams with technical domain expertise
  • Leadership exploring new offerings, process improvements or portfolio development

Not the right fit

  • Solo or individual inventors
  • Single idea submissions or invention marketing requests
  • Teams looking for the lowest cost filing option

Build your moat before the market catches up.

Every market is speeding up. A short call about where your business is headed, what is worth owning and where new revenue could come from. You leave with a clear next step either way.

Engagements are for mid-cap and larger companies. Patent filings are reviewed, finalized and filed by independent licensed patent counsel.
