Semiconductor Patent Development
Circuit design, device structures, packaging, test and fabrication processes. We work with your design and process teams to capture inventions, research prior art and prepare provisional-ready materials for independent patent counsel.
Why Semiconductor Matters
Semiconductor development is expensive and iterative, and process and design improvements accumulate quickly. Capturing them in a consistent record helps leadership decide what to file, what to hold as a trade secret, and where to focus counsel's time.
Our Development Approach
A structured methodology informed by prior IP development engagements.
Study & Invent
Your semiconductor team gets new product, extension and technical process concepts, built from your business inputs, your roadmap and a review of publicly available competitor offerings.
Commercial-Use Evaluation
You get a prioritized list of candidate inventions, evaluated for potential applications and technical feasibility, without promising market demand or commercial success.
Prior Art Research
You get patent and technical literature searches for each candidate invention.
Invention Disclosures
You get detailed technical descriptions, variations and drawings, ready for counsel.
Counsel Review and Filing
Independent licensed patent counsel from an established firm reviews, finalizes and files.
Industry Landscape
Semiconductor fields are crowded with prior publications, so early prior art research is especially useful. Some process know-how may be better kept as a trade secret. Counsel advises on the right form of protection for each invention.
Key Coverage Areas & Applications
Circuit Design
Analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit techniques.
Device Structures
Transistor, memory and sensor structures.
Fabrication Processes
Deposition, etch, lithography and process integration steps.
Packaging and Interconnect
Advanced packaging, thermal paths and interconnect designs.
Test and Yield
Test methods, inspection and yield improvement approaches.
Design Tools and Methods
Verification, layout and design flow improvements.
Semiconductor: Common Questions
Our Credentials
Founded by James Borzilleri, named inventor and technology founder
James Borzilleri built this practice around a problem he met personally. He is a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications, and working through that first filing himself showed him where the process tends to break: inventions that were never written down, records that arrive too thin for counsel to work from, and valuable work that leaves with the engineer who created it.
Rather than accept those gaps, he designed the technology and the working method behind Idea Partnership himself, then refined them across years of founding and advising technology companies in fintech and adjacent fields. The result is a repeatable way to turn what your team already builds, and what your roadmap still needs, into a documented invention record that patent counsel can file from.
Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, opinions, or patent filing or prosecution services. We work alongside each client's qualified patent counsel, who is responsible for all legal advice, opinions, drafting, filing, and prosecution.
