Idea Partnership: An Inventor-Led Studio

New products, services and processes your competitors have not thought of yet.

From idea to filing

New inventions, developed for your business

Our Mission

We do more than document what a company has already built. We use its products, workflows, customer needs and technical capabilities to develop new candidate inventions through strategic partnerships, patent development, and hands-on guidance.

Our approach is rooted in authentic partnership. We work alongside founders as true collaborators, sharing both the challenges and triumphs of building exceptional companies. Whether you're developing fintech solutions or SaaS platforms, we provide the support you need.

Our Point of View

Invention Is a Process, Not an Accident

Thomas Edison is remembered for the lightbulb, but his real contribution was Menlo Park: the first industrial research lab, built on the idea that invention could be organized, documented, and repeated. More than a thousand patents came out of that method. Very few of them came from inspiration alone.

That belief sits underneath everything we do. Our founder, James Borzilleri, is a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications. Working through that first filing himself showed him where the process tends to break: inventions that were never written down, records that arrive too thin for counsel to work from, and valuable work that leaves with the engineer who created it. The companies that build durable IP are not the ones with the most ideas. They are the ones with a method.

Rather than accept those gaps, he designed the technology and the working method behind Idea Partnership himself, then refined them across years of founding and advising technology companies in fintech and adjacent fields. The result is a repeatable way to turn what your team already builds, and what your roadmap still needs, into a documented invention record that patent counsel can file from.

We bring that method to mid-market and growth-stage companies through our four-stage process. Survey the business and competition, develop new concepts in the Lab, evaluate potential commercial uses and prior art, then prepare the patent record for counsel and plan the portfolio.

Why Work With Idea Partnership?

You may already have patent counsel and advisers. What you need from us is new inventions built around your roadmap, not just an assessment of the portfolio you already own.

Patent law firms

Patent counsel assesses inventions, advises on protection and handles drafting, filing and prosecution. Fees and involvement in invention development vary by firm and engagement.

IP strategy and advisory firms

Portfolio analysis, valuation and transaction advice help a company understand and use its existing IP. Those services may not include developing new technical inventions.

Innovation consultancies

Product concepts and innovation programs can help teams explore new directions. Prior art research, technical invention disclosures and coordination with patent counsel may require a separate scope.

Our role: create the inventions and develop the record for counsel

We use your business goals and our proprietary invention engine to develop new product, service and process inventions. We evaluate potential commercial uses, research prior art and prepare technical materials for independent patent counsel to assess, draft and file from.

The full engagement is scoped around at least two distinct inventions and a counsel-filed provisional patent application on a defined 90-day timeline. Delivery, payment and refund terms are set out in the engagement agreement and summarized below. A filed provisional application is not a granted patent.

Service scopes overlap and vary. This explains the work we take on, not a claim that other firms cannot offer it. Commercial-use evaluation does not establish market demand, and prior art research does not replace counsel's patentability assessment. Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide our work and partnerships

Innovation First

We champion bold ideas and cutting-edge solutions that push boundaries and create new possibilities.

Founder Partnership

Building authentic relationships based on trust, transparency, and shared success with every founder.

Strategic Thinking

Bringing decades of combined experience to help navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

Results Driven

Focused on measurable outcomes and sustainable growth through disciplined execution and accountability.

Our Approach

We believe in building for the long term. Rather than seeking quick wins, we invest time and resources into understanding each founder's vision and helping them build sustainable, scalable businesses through strategic partnerships and IP development.

Our team brings together diverse expertise across technology, operations, marketing, and finance. This multidisciplinary approach allows us to provide comprehensive support tailored to each company's unique needs.

We maintain a selective portfolio, ensuring we can dedicate significant attention and resources to each partnership. This focused approach enables deeper engagement and better outcomes for the founders we support.

Our delivery commitment

Subject to your engagement agreement: half up front, half at completion. If a counsel-filed provisional patent application describing at least two distinct inventions, as defined in that agreement, is not delivered within 90 days, you receive a refund of fees paid. Delays caused by late materials, reviews or signatures on your side extend the period. This is not a promise of a patent grant or any commercial outcome.

Your challenge

Your market is moving fast. A moat and new revenue are what last.

Competitors are shipping faster than ever, and AI tools have made features cheaper to copy. Growth increasingly depends on two things: a moat competitors cannot simply rebuild, and new products and services that open revenue. Both take invention work most teams have no spare capacity for.

What you face

Rivals match what you ship faster than your roadmap moves, new revenue needs new offerings, and others may file on similar ideas before you do.

How it feels

Your team is fully booked on the current roadmap. You know the next product line and the defensible IP are both missing, but nobody has the hours to create them.

What you want

A real moat and a pipeline of new offerings: filed applications, documented know-how and new product and service concepts that reflect your capabilities and hold value as your market changes.

Your guide

We know how fast your market is moving.

Idea Partnership is led by James Borzilleri, a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications. He has watched good technology lose its edge because nobody had time to protect it or build what came next. That is why your engineers do not need to bring finished ideas or extra hours: we work alongside them to create and document new inventions, then hand counsel a complete technical record, so your company owns what it builds while your team stays on the roadmap.

The plan

A clear three-step plan.

Three steps from your business goals to a filed application your company owns.

  1. 01

    Share your goals

Tell us where your business is headed. Your team spends a few working sessions with us, not weeks away from the roadmap.

  2. 02

Get new inventions, ready for counsel

You receive candidate inventions with commercial-use evaluation, prior art research, drawings and disclosures, ready for counsel to review.

  3. 03

    Own a filed application

Independent licensed patent counsel assesses patentability, finalizes and files, so your company holds a filed provisional patent application. Legal judgments stay with counsel.

Without a plan

  • Competitors rebuild your features and compete on price
  • Growth stalls without new revenue-producing offerings
  • Others may file on similar ideas first
  • Inventions may be disclosed publicly before anyone evaluates them
  • Diligence reviewers may find an undocumented technology story
  • Counsel receives incomplete material and timelines slip

With a plan in place

  • Your company owns rights that a competitor cannot simply rebuild
  • New product and service concepts give growth somewhere to go
  • Your team's best ideas are captured before they ship
  • You choose what to file with research in hand
  • Your counsel receives complete packages and timelines hold
  • You walk into diligence with a documented technology story

Outcomes depend on each invention, prior art and counsel's judgment. Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.

Build your moat before the market catches up.

Every market is speeding up. A short call about where your business is headed, what is worth owning and where new revenue could come from. You leave with a clear next step either way.

Engagements are for mid-cap and larger companies. Patent filings are reviewed, finalized and filed by independent licensed patent counsel.
