Hardware & Electronics Patent Development
Devices, sensors, embedded systems, power electronics and connected products. We help your hardware team document what they built, research prior art and prepare provisional-ready materials for independent patent counsel.
Why Hardware & Electronics Matters
Hardware programs produce inventions at every stage: board design, enclosures, power management, firmware and test methods. Many are never captured because engineers move on to the next revision. A structured process helps record them while the details are fresh.
Our Development Approach
A structured methodology informed by prior IP development engagements.
Study & Invent
Your hardware team gets new product, extension and technical process concepts, built from your business inputs, your roadmap and a review of publicly available competitor offerings.
Commercial-Use Evaluation
You get a prioritized list of candidate inventions, evaluated for potential applications and technical feasibility, without promising market demand or commercial success.
Prior Art Research
You get patent and technical literature searches for each candidate invention.
Invention Disclosures
You get detailed technical descriptions, variations and drawings, ready for counsel.
Counsel Review and Filing
Independent licensed patent counsel from an established firm reviews, finalizes and files.
Industry Landscape
Hardware inventions often combine physical structure, electronics and software. Disclosures need clear drawings and descriptions of how components interact. Counsel decides how to describe and claim each invention.
Key Coverage Areas & Applications
Sensors and Measurement
Sensing structures, calibration methods and signal processing.
Embedded Systems
Controllers, firmware methods and hardware and software interaction.
Power Electronics
Conversion, management and thermal designs.
Connected Devices
Communication, pairing and device management methods.
Test and Manufacturing
Test fixtures, inspection methods and assembly processes.
Enclosures and Form Factor
Mechanical integration, cooling and serviceability features.
Hardware & Electronics: Common Questions
Our Credentials
Founded by James Borzilleri, named inventor and technology founder
James Borzilleri built this practice around a problem he met personally. He is a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications, and working through that first filing himself showed him where the process tends to break: inventions that were never written down, records that arrive too thin for counsel to work from, and valuable work that leaves with the engineer who created it.
Rather than accept those gaps, he designed the technology and the working method behind Idea Partnership himself, then refined them across years of founding and advising technology companies in fintech and adjacent fields. The result is a repeatable way to turn what your team already builds, and what your roadmap still needs, into a documented invention record that patent counsel can file from.
Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, opinions, or patent filing or prosecution services. We work alongside each client's qualified patent counsel, who is responsible for all legal advice, opinions, drafting, filing, and prosecution.
