Everything Your Provisional Needs, Ready for Counsel

Get the disclosures, drawings and prior art research your filing needs, then move straight into the hands of independent licensed patent counsel for review and filing.

Why Provisional Patent Preparation Matters

Engineering teams are busy, and counsel can only work with what they receive. A complete, well-organized package helps counsel spend time on legal judgment instead of chasing information. Preparing and filing patent applications for others is the work of registered patent attorneys and agents, so the filing itself stays with counsel.

Our Preparation Approach

From business inputs and new concepts to a counsel-ready package.

1

Invention Development

Your business inputs and competitive research feed a structured ideation process that develops new offerings, product extensions and technical process improvements.

2

Commercial-Use Evaluation

You get an examination of potential applications, technical feasibility and fit with your business priorities. This is not a promise of market demand or commercial success.

3

Prior Art Research

You get searches for each candidate, so your counsel sees relevant references early.

4

Invention Disclosures

You get detailed technical write-ups covering the problem, the solution, variations and how it works.

5

Drawings and Technical Materials

You get diagrams, flowcharts and supporting materials organized for counsel's review.

6

Counsel Review, Signoff and Filing

Independent licensed patent counsel from an established firm reviews, finalizes and files the provisional application.

Industry Landscape

A provisional application establishes a filing date for what it discloses and generally must be followed by a non-provisional application within twelve months to pursue a patent. What is disclosed matters, which is why counsel reviews and finalizes every application before filing. Filing a provisional does not ensure that a patent will be granted.

Key Coverage Areas & Applications

Our delivery commitment

Subject to your engagement agreement: half up front, half at completion. If a counsel-filed provisional patent application describing at least two distinct inventions, as defined in that agreement, is not delivered within 90 days, you receive a refund of fees paid. Delays caused by late materials, reviews or signatures on your side extend the period. This is not a promise of a patent grant or any commercial outcome.

Provisional Patent Preparation: Common Questions

Our Credentials

Founded by James Borzilleri, named inventor and technology founder

James Borzilleri built this practice around a problem he met personally. He is a named inventor on an issued U.S. patent and on multiple pending U.S. patent applications, and working through that first filing himself showed him where the process tends to break: inventions that were never written down, records that arrive too thin for counsel to work from, and valuable work that leaves with the engineer who created it.

Rather than accept those gaps, he designed the technology and the working method behind Idea Partnership himself, then refined them across years of founding and advising technology companies in fintech and adjacent fields. The result is a repeatable way to turn what your team already builds, and what your roadmap still needs, into a documented invention record that patent counsel can file from.

Idea Partnership is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, opinions, or patent filing or prosecution services. We work alongside each client's qualified patent counsel, who is responsible for all legal advice, opinions, drafting, filing, and prosecution.
