When idea management software is not enough

Idea software is good at collecting suggestions. It does not develop them. If your idea portal is full but nothing new is getting built or protected, the gap is usually the development work.

Why this matters now

Markets are moving faster than they used to, and AI tools have made features cheaper to copy. When code is quick to rebuild, the advantages that last are the ones your company owns: filed applications, well-kept trade secrets and a pipeline of new offerings. What idea management software does

Idea management software, sometimes called innovation management software or an innovation platform, gives employees a place to submit ideas, vote, comment and move ideas through review stages. It brings order and visibility to suggestions that would otherwise live in email.

Where software stops

Software organizes ideas. It does not research prior art, test commercial use, write a technical description someone could build from, or prepare drawings for counsel. Those steps take focused time, and the people who submitted the ideas are usually busy with their day jobs.

Many portals also fill up with small fixes rather than new products, services or processes.

Using software and a partner together
